Deerfield River Fishing Report 4/28/17

The lower part of the Deerfield is still running high due to the rain this week. It will continue to go down and when it hits 1,000cfs is when it will really start to turn on I think. The upper catch and release areas below Fife Brook Dam have been running from 800-1,100cfs. Water is still pretty cold in the low to mid 40’s. I’ve seen some good numbers of Tan Caddis and Light Hendrickson’s on the lower part and the Millers River. Millers is still quite high for safe wading. More rain is predicted for the later part of the week so the earlier part of next week could be the best time to make it out.

Woolly Buggers 6-10, Sculpins and medium size streamers 4-8, Olive/Natural Caddis Nymphs 8-18, OCD Caddis 14-16, Pheasant Tails 12-20, Hare’s Ear 12-16, Stoneflies 8-12, Deerfield Stone 14, Copper Johns 12-16, Attractor Nymphs 12-18, Squirmies and Egg Patterns, BWO 16-18, Tan Elk Hair Caddis 14-18, Hendrickson’s 14-16 and Red Quill 14-16.

We made the front page of the Recorder on Wednesday while floating the Millers River. My Dad is in the front and Jonathan Bunker of Sqaire-Tail Anglers is in the back giving me some rowing instruction.
