The Deerfield River is very high due to the large amount of rain we received last night. I wouldn’t expect it to get down to a fishable level this weekend. Check the water flows to see what’s happening. Under 1,000cfs is what you want.

The East Branch of the Westfield River is very high as well but it will drop fast and could be fishable by Sunday. The East Branch has been fishing well prior to the rain and fishes good at 500cfs or less. There is no gauge in the Gorge so to get a more accurate flow above the Knightville Dam look at the reading for West Branch Westfield River at Huntington, MA. Then add at least 200cfs to that and you will get an idea of what it is flowing at. This section will drop fast once the rain stops and is usually fishable a day or two after.

The Millers River has been high and really hasn’t been fishable wading this year. 500cfs and below is when this river fishes good. It will be great when the water decides to drop.

The Swift stays at a constant flow of about 50cfs and is not effected by the rain. The fishing has been good but you may run into some crowds at times. There is plenty of water to explore if you want some solitude.

Watch for the smaller rivers to drop quickly. They can provide some of the best fishing of the season. Look at a map or the states stocking report and go exploring.
