A lot of customers have been asking about the crazy water flows this year. My answer is we have a lot of water and the power companies are going to use it when they want. If you are heading up to the catch and release areas then you want to look at the flows at the Fife Brook Dam. The schedule is updated after 5pm but can change at any time. It,s best to check just before you head out. If you are fishing the lower part of the river then look at the USGS Gauge at West Deerfield. This doesn’t give a schedule but an actual reading updated every hour. Check before you head out and be aware. Put links on your phone and check periodically.
All the rivers (Westfield, Millers and Deerfield) are at good fishable levels. Temperatures are creeping up during the day into the high 60’s so early morning and evenings are the prime times to fish.
Tan/Olive/Brown Caddis 14-18, Light Cahills 14-16, March Browns 12-16, Sulfurs 14-18 have been sporadic throughout the day and the evening is when the hatches really turn on. Stimulators/PMX 8-12 are good attractors during the day. March Brown/GRHE Wet Flies 12-14, Soft Hackles 12-18, PT Nymphs 12-18, Olive/Natural Caddis Nymphs 10-16, Hare’s Ear Nymphs 10-16, Black/Golden/Brown Stones 8-12, Deerfield Stone 14, Attractor Nymphs 10-18, Olive/Black/Brown Buggers 6-12 are still getting it done.
We have expanded our fly selections and our bins are full of new flies. Stop on in on your way out.
