Every spring shad make their annual migration up the Connecticut River and into its bigger tributaries like the Deerfield, Westfield and Chicopee rivers. These fish are ton of fun to catch on the fly.
To get you ready for this year’s run, Gary Metras is teaching a class at the Deerfield Fly Shop on April 23 at 3 pm on tying flies to target shad. Gary will lead the class through three proven patterns. Class fee: $25. All materials will be supplied for the class. Bring your own vise, tools and thread.
